In holistic healthcare, there’s increasing recognition that emotional and physical health are closely connected. Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) provides a structured way to work with this relationship, helping to identify and release unresolved stress patterns that can impact both the body and mind. Developed in the 1980s by Drs. Scott and Deb Walker, NET combines principles from chiropractic, psychology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Its focus is on how stress is stored physiologically and how resolving it can support overall health. NET was developed from the observation that unresolved emotional stress often shows up physically. Rather than viewing symptoms in isolation, NET looks at how past stress responses can remain active in the body. It introduces the concept of Neuro Emotional Complexes (NECs)—patterns where an emotional response becomes linked with a physical reaction. These are not just psychological; they are learned physiological responses that can persist long after the original event. When the body experiences stress, it activates the fight-or-flight response, releasing hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. In the short term, this is helpful. However, when stress is ongoing or unresolved, the nervous system can stay in a heightened state. This involves areas like the limbic system, particularly the amygdala and hypothalamus, which regulate emotional and stress responses. Over time, this can lead to: Ongoing muscle tension Increased inflammation Heightened sensitivity to pain NET aims to address this by identifying where these responses are being held and helping the body return to a more balanced state. NET uses muscle testing to identify stress-related patterns in the body. Once identified, specific acupressure points are stimulated while the individual focuses on the associated stressor. The goal is to help the nervous system “reprocess” that response, reducing its physiological impact. In simple terms, it helps shift the body out of a stored stress pattern and back toward normal regulation.
